I’ve been pretty good lately, drawing scribbles in my notebooks as studies of my day to day life.

I have some bigger pieces coming up soon that I promise I’ll post. I also have some nice paintings I’ve done that I’d like to get photographed and put in here.

My comics have taken a turn for the darkly personal, so we’ll get there soon enough.

Well I’m heading up to WRJ to see James Kochalka of American Elf fame this Thursday. I’m super excited. I’m hoping I can convince him to give WZLY his new cd. I’m going to make it a good day trip, and my art teacher is really excited as well, since she’s from the WRJ area.

In other news, I’m sorry I haven’t been as attentive with this blog as I would like. I’m glad people are still checking it and reading it, and I promise now that things are settling and that I have a real routine, it’ll look more like a comic blog. Since I have to do comics for you know a grade.

So, to continue my pattern.

Working on: I’m sad to say nothing right now. Thinking about a bunch of ideas for my webcomic and for my Independent Project. I like the idea now of just keeping it all around middle school.

I did start also my painting class recently, and I love it. So hard. I’m not a very good painter, and I don’t know if I ever will be, but it gives me hope that art is real and not fake. And that I can be a real person and make a living through art, if I try enough. I also just love working with tools because lezbehonest we all know why. She makes us do everything by hand, and I am nothing if not a purist.

Reading: Cruddy by Lynda Barry, Love and Rockets.

Watching: Gossip Girl, 17 Again, True Blood, Mad Men. Don’t judge me.

Listening to: top 40, Ramping Shop, Glamorous. It’s been a trashy week, guys. I’ve got to pull it together.

Working on: Inspiration! I was struck by an idea the other day in Boston while walking around my mom. I want to make a webcomic called Lifer. I have some really neat ideas about it, and hopefully I’ll get a chance to work on it soon. I got a ton of inspiration this week, just hit over and over again by cool ideas. I need to take some time and actually work. I have about three or four big projects I’m working on right now. The Independent Study Project, as yet unnamed, Lifer, my comic diary and I keep getting really neat ideas. I’m SO EXCITED.

In other news, I found some harry potter fanart I had done in the 10th grade. You don’t know me. Regardless, it was done with like… brush and zipitone. Way more advanced than the stuff I do now. I kind of want to include it in my CCS application, but that would probably be embarrassing. But I’ll probably do it anyway.

Reading: Bone, Cruddy by Lynda Barry, Chris Ware, Phase 7!!! I also read Disappearance Diary, which was beautiful and insane. It’s interesting to see how different the Manga publishing culture is so different from American comics, or at least from an outsider’s point of view. The serials might be different, like Marvel and DC, but still. Wow. I highly recommend it.

Watching: The Wire, Law & Order SVU, Oz, Away We Go (which I actually really liked, even if no one else did)

Listening to: Fall Out Boy? And Dan Deacon.

Good news! I sold my first batch of comics to Million Year Picnic! They bought fifteen copies of The Ear for a dollar a piece! I made $7.50
Woooo gonna make it rain on dem hos.

Reading: More Chris Ware, Box Office Poison, and Bone still. I’ve been marking up Bone with a blue pencil to take notes of how the page flows and how the panels are structured. It’s weird to make reading comics feel like research… But so COOL.

Working on: I fleshed out my CCS application comic idea. I also came up with a really neat binding idea inspired by post its.

Reading: Acme Novelty Library #19. I want to read everything Chris Ware has ever done that blew my mind.

I promise i’ll post art tonight. It’s been a busy time.

Working on: I’ve decided to do a map. Both Alec Longstreth and Jeff Smith proved to me that knowing the setting my characters are in will vastly improve the authenticity of my story. Particularly since this project revolves so closely around a TOWN and how that town changes, I need to know how things are. So I’ve been drawing (no pun intended) some inspiration from Lynda Barry’s work and Friday Night Lights my favorite TV Show of all time.

Reading: If on a winter’s night a traveler by Italo Calvino and Bone still. And my mom’s letters to her best friend from college.

Bought: Orange computer case.

Want: To go home and play with the puppy.

No new art tonight. I had to go home and babysit my mom because they let her out of the hospital with no warning. She thinks I’m my aunt, but other than that, she’s been okay. Tomorrow though.

I had a brief conversation with someone at work about how blogs are boring as all hell if it’s just about someone’s life. Because really, who cares? So I promise not to turn this into livejournal and to keep it straight up comix. That is my blogging promise.

Well, if nothing else, if this entire family experience isn’t enough inspiration for some kind of magnum opus, I don’t know what is.

comic status: scanned some daily comics from june, turned The Ear into a readable PDF, tried to get access to the book arts lab at school, started my CCS application.

feeling: like i am writing in my livejournal in my dark bedroom at the age of 15. lets get some glitter grafix up in this b.
